MemWin and KMemWin are tools for displaying free memory in the frontmost
application -- the first shows memory in bytes and the second shows it in
kilobytes (hence the K).
In both programs, the window always floats above all other programs and
windows, but can be hidden or shown by typing Cmd-Escape. On the other
hand, clicking in the Close Box will quit the program until the next
restart.
Both require the Text Services Manager of System 7.1 or later, so
if you dont have System 7.1 you are out of luck. Both are implemented
as System Extensions (actually background only programs), so place
whichever one you like into the Extensions folder.
Changes since 1.0:
Added a field to the listing. The "Rsrv" field that reflects
several types of memory: the stack, application globals, and
embedded heaps. This field rounds out the accounting to match
other memory display programs.
Clarified the difference between the Show/Hide and Quit
functions.
Thanks to John Stein for the new icon design. I touched it up,
but it was his idea and work.
The software is free for posting, sharing, and putting on CD-ROMS. The
source is available for implementing similar hacks if you are interested.
